Artist: Diana Farfan

  • ceramic sculptures
  • mixed media
  • bust portraits
  • the busts symbolize political, military and religious power
  • some are displayed in rolling chairs

Since I have become involved in ceramics I have been looking more into people who do ceramics. I have become very interested in making busts of silly characters. I really loved looking at this artist work because the characters were realistic but had a surreal touch to them. The glazes used were very pale which added a ghostly feel to all the characters.

  • Hyper Realist
  • huge people sculptures
  • very detailed
  • look like everyday people

I really loved this artist because of the size of the sculptures he makes. I feel that because of the size it makes people more captivated by his work. He makes people of all ages. He is really goo at capturing every detail. He goes so far into detail that he will actually curl the hair of the women he creates to make them look more realistic.

Artist: Laura Harris

  • acrylic
  • Pealing paint layers
  • Looks like the piece is rusting
  • deep rich colors
  • awesome textures

This was another artist I stumbled upon randomly. I really enjoyed looking through all her work, which she had a lot of. The acrylic paintings she did looked rough and as if they were pealing away. Their layers held many other layers beneath them which were all different colors. The color choices were very earthy and rich. The acrylic paint did not have that shine that it normally does so I found it hard to believe it was acrylic paint. I would really like to learn this type of technique.

I am so happy I found this Guy! I start taking ceramics very soon so seeing these sculpture’s helped enhance my excitement for my ceramics class to start. It also brought up some new ideas of things I would like to create. I really liked how the sculpture’s looked as if they were very old and distressed. I found the things he created with the bronze to be magnificent. I really enjoyed looking at the people he sculpted. I plan to do something with sculpting people in my ceramics class.

  • A persons environment

When I found this photographer I thought what she had done was awesome. I thought the idea of taking a picture of a person and whats inside of their fridge was genius. I felt their was a deeper connection between a person and what inhabits their fridge. I never thought about how what is inside a fridge can define a person as well. This inspired me to want to look into everyone fridge and see how their food can describe them.

Artist: David Reed
  • Vibrant colors
  • beautiful swirls
  • shows movement
  • thin layers of paint

I admire David Reed’s technique to applying the thin layers of paint. I really love how all his pieces have this feel of movement because of the way he spreads the layers of paint.  The contrast between the very vibrant colors with the dark colors really adds to everyone one of his pieces. I hope to learn from his ways of painting and try and use some of his techniques  in my paintings.

Artist: Marion Peck
  • Distorted features of everyday people
  • old fashion
  • kinda freaky
  • black and white
  • framed in very awesome frames

The oil paintings of these people are fantastic! The old style fashion in which there painted in really adds to a freaky type of appeal. I thought it was clever to enhance the heads of the people she was painting because it gave them more of an importance. I thought leaving the oil painting in just black and white also was a very nice touch, But adding the colored old frames really brought all these pieces together.

  • Crazy mixed media!

  • awesome framing

I thought this artist Nall was very interesting.  I love the mixed media. Mixed media is something I myself love to do and is something I’m looking into doing more just like this artist. I like the idea of using already put together frames. It adds more to image and everything else around it. I noticed little tiles were used also in these small pieces which I also thought was totally awesome. I never thought of using tile in my art until right now….! Wahoo!

I cant seem to stop looking through all her paintings. I find them to be so beautiful. The colors are so vibrant and just eye catching. There absolutely striking. I’d love to be able to paint like this women. I feel that when I look at her paintings I see all her imagination just spit on to some canvas. Although its not just that simple because its all so layered and then behind certain things is so much detail. The brush strokes are visible in some of the paintings which I think really adds to an artist piece.

I felt that Max’s art was some of which i truly admire. It’s simple but yet it has some very complex and difficult drawings. I really love this gallery of his work because I admire it so much and i want to be able to make some form of  art the way he is creating his own. I see such technique. I don’t know i really enjoy looking at how simple it all is but once you look in closely you see the complex ideas he was thinking about.

  • abnormal features, back rounds,  and people
  • Hallucinogenic imagery

I found this series of paintings to be very very awesome. I thought the whole idea of hallucinogenic imagery worked really well and it caught my eye. • scribbles
  • vibrant colors ( in some)
  • misshapen people

I really enjoyed looking through Amadea Bailey’s gallery because her art reminds me of my own. you can tell she uses fast arm movements when creating her people and the things around them. she uses ink and water colors to help make certain things stand out in her back drops.  The thin layers of paint give her art a special touch i think.

Artist: Alexis Berman
Found at: Bill Lowe Gallery

  • Very vibrant colors
  • Splatter paint
  • Layers of different colored paint
  • No distinct “figure”
  • Colors portray center emotions or relate to certain emotions

I dig Alexis Berman’s art. I dig it so much because the use of colors works on complementing all the other colors and everything else that’s going on in the pieces. There is no distinct “object” in most of her pieces, and they all are very well balanced. Her use of color amazes me and I wish I could be that coordinated when it come to my color options.

Artist: Sabine Tress
Found at: Bill Lowe Gallery

  • Simple brush strokes
  • Vibrant colors
  • Unrealistic
  • Mixed media
  • Works with  mostly acrylics and oils

I picked this artist because it was unlike most of the artist’s on this gallery I saw.  All of the pieces are very unrealistic and a tad bizarre. I like how it didn’t really look like much. I couldn’t pick out what the artist was feeling or what she was even trying to portray in the picture.  I found each individual piece to be very unique although I did see some similarities.

Artist: Steve Sas Schwartz
Found at: Bill Lowe Gallery
•    With each facial feature he is able to capture a distinct emotion
•    Uses a gel like substance to create interesting designs in back round
•    All pieces are done on wood and figures are drawn in charcoal
•    Simple drawn lines to create people but, detailed lines in back round
•    Very interesting use in textures like, wood, gel and layers of paint

I found this gallery of art by Steve Schwartz to be very appealing to me. It’s appealing to me because I draw people as well, with not great detail but more detail put into the back round.  He really seemed to catch my eye. I thought it was very interesting how he used this gel substance in almost all of his back rounds. I really liked the way he could really capture the faces of people and the emotion. I could pick out and see each emotion in every person he drew very clearly.

Artist Name:  Guido Daniele

•    Extreme detail
•    Has a very realistic appearance
•    artist frequently used vibrant and eye catching colors the contrasted very well
•    catches every detail of every animal
•    Artist uses hands as a canvas, he’s got skills.

I discovered this artist from a friend of mine.  His art is powerful and very realistic and beyond eye catching.  I can only imagine the detail and patients he must have to be painting on a human hand as well as he does. The first thing I really thought about when I saw this artist was why hands? I feel that he used his hands because its something you don’t normally see being used to create or show off your art. I find it unusual but real awesome.

Artist:Roberto Bernardi

  • Hyper realism
  • Photo like drawings
  • Painted
  • Complex
  • Probably time consuming

I couldn’t believe this when I saw it. I swore it was a photo but it turned out I ended up stumbling upon what is known as hyper realism. With extreme photo like qualities these are not just drawings, but also paintings of everyday items and random things. I cant even imagine how much skill it must take to create such an realistic drawings/paintings. To all the people who have achieved this skill and are in the makings of perfecting there hyper realism, great friggin job.
